Obama to "Back off" on the AWB

So this article says that Obama plans to back off the AWB and that the administration wants to crack down on "Straw Buyers". I wonder how they plan on doing that?

Quote:

Straw buyers
Enforcement of the nations gun laws is primarily the responsibility of ATF, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Its agents and inspectors check to see that gun dealers obey laws governing sales. They look for evidence of straw buyers people legally entitled to buy guns who then sell them to criminals or others who dont want any records tying them to a specific gun.

ATF says such buyers are responsible for a large proportion of guns that wind up in the hands of violent drug cartels in Mexico.

These illegal purchases, ATFs William Newell told Congress last month, are a key source and supply of firearms for drug traffickers.

The best way to improve enforcement of existing gun laws, said one veteran ATF agent, is to put more badges on the street.

Give us more people to inspect gun dealers, looking for straw buyers, in the states where the guns smuggled into Mexico are coming from, he says.

I'm still looking for an anti-aircraft MG at my local firearms dealers.

The report is correct - it is straw buyers that are the problem. The report is incomplete - the straw buyers work for the 2 governments.

AKA he wants the ATF to setup "stings" to give them an excuse to close down more gun shops.

Obama is going to use the 1997 Inter Arms Treaty that Bill Clinton signed but didn't ratify. By using that treaty he can control, gun parts, ammo reloading, any kind of manufactor by government intervention.

That's what I was thinking. The only way they could really crack down on "Straw buyers" is entrapping people.

All they need is about 3 gun shops to "fall prey" and the MSM will chop and splice that video so bad by time they are finished they will have you beliving the shops in question had a part time kiddie porn ring running out the back room as well.

Look at the hit piece "if a only had a gun" as a small exapmle of what we are facing.

I think you are right TA. Although you would have to be pretty stupid to participate in the "stings". I can only imagine they would have to be upfront in saying that the guns were not for them. That or they would have to actively attempt to find "Straw Buyers" and bust them. Kind of like propositioning someone for prostitution and then arresting them if they accept. These are strange times.

The very nature of a "sting" is flawed

You cant "find" the crime.

So you have to "create" it.

So you can then "stop" it.

Unfortunately there are enough (although a small percent of) dealers who are very easy prey and it's easy enough to hit a few and make it look larger than life. We see them watching the gun shops more these days near borderland and if they look shady, the paperwork is rifled (pun intended I guess) and scrutinized.
